Good for transactional emails

I signed up for their free trial to test the Transactional Email API for our app. The API documentation was clear, and I got it integrated quickly. Delivery speeds were consistent, and I appreciated the real-time email analytics, which helped us track opens and clicks right away. Their bounce management seemed effective too; I noticed a few soft bounces were handled automatically. I needed to clarify something about sub-account management and their support team responded within a few hours. Overall, a solid service for our needs.

Fantastic email service!

Wow, I just started using their SMTP Relay Service for my website, and it's been absolutely amazing! The setup was a breeze, and all my emails are getting delivered super fast. I was worried about deliverability, but their reputation defender really works. I'm so glad I switched to them! This is definitely my go-to for email now.

Easy setup, worked great

I tried their SMTP Relay Service for a new project last week. Setting it up was pretty straightforward, even for me. The emails went out without a hitch, which was a relief. Good experience overall, will probably use them again.

My renewal for the Starter plan just came in and it's higher than I expected. Is there usually a discount for annual plans or should I contact support about a renewal discount?

V VikramS 1 week ago ✓ Best Answer
Yeah, their initial pricing is often promotional. You usually get a discount if you pay annually upfront, it's usually listed somewhere on their pricing page. I'd check that first. If not, contact support. Sometimes they can apply a loyalty discount.

Mine was the same. The annual discount helped a bit.

G Gaurav 1 week ago
Thanks, will look for the annual option. Didn't see it clearly when I signed up.

K KaranL 1 week ago
I got a renewal discount last year, but I had to ask for it. So definitely worth reaching out.

M MeeraD 1 week ago
I've heard about non-profit discounts too. If you're a non-profit, that could be a significant saving. Also, check if you're eligible for any startup programs, sometimes those have better rates for a year or two.
5
M MeeraD 1 week ago
Usually need to apply and show proof. They're not always advertised upfront.

A Anjali 1 week ago
Are those discounts generally public or do you need to apply specifically?
7
G Gaurav 1 week ago
Not a non-profit, but good to know for others.

R RohanK 1 week ago
Is your plan still meeting your needs, or are you thinking of upgrading? Sometimes the jump to the next tier has better per-email pricing, which could offset the renewal increase if your volume has grown.
2
G Gaurav 1 week ago
That's a good point, Rohan. My volume has gone up a bit, so maybe it's time to re-evaluate.

I found that going from Starter to Essential saved me money per email even with the higher base price.

Thinking of switching from SendGrid to SMTP.com for our transactional emails. Anyone made this jump? How was the setup and deliverability after the switch?

D DeepakG 3 weeks ago
I'm still on SendGrid but curious about this too. Heard good things about SMTP.com's Reputation Defender, is that something you're using, PriyaK?
10
P PriyaK 3 weeks ago
Not really, it's more like a managed service thing. They handle a lot of the backend monitoring.
2
P PriyaK 3 weeks ago
We are, yes. Haven't had any major blacklisting issues since we started using it, which is a relief.
5
D DeepakG 3 weeks ago
How does Reputation Defender actually work? Is it complex to set up?
7
S SaraJ 3 weeks ago
I tried their free trial a while back. It was decent, but I didn't push it too hard. Deliverability seemed fine for small batches. My main concern was scaling.
8
N Nikhil88 3 weeks ago
What kind of volume were you testing with?
0
R RajatS 3 weeks ago
Did you go with dedicated IPs for scaling or shared?
8
P PoojaR 3 weeks ago
Following. Also thinking about this.
7
P PriyaK 3 weeks ago
We moved about 6 months ago. Setup was pretty straightforward, especially if you're familiar with API keys and DNS records. Deliverability has been solid for us, maybe even a slight improvement on open rates. Main reason was pricing for our volume. SendGrid got a bit steep.

N Nikhil88 3 weeks ago
Did you use their API or just the SMTP relay? Curious about the API docs.

R RajatS 3 weeks ago
Good to know about the pricing. We're feeling the pinch too.

Which SMTP.com product for a small e-commerce store sending order confirmations?

V VikasReddy 3 weeks ago ✓ Best Answer
Transactional Email API, hands down. It's built for that stuff.

You could just use their regular SMTP Relay Service for transactional too, it's simpler.
3
K KiranSingh 3 weeks ago
True, API might be overkill for small volume.

Does SMTP.com charge for bounced emails, like if an address is bad?

O Omar V. 1 month ago
Nope, they don't charge for bounces. It's good because you're only paying for successful deliveries which is what you want.
0
F Faith 1 month ago
Nah, they don't bill you for soft or hard bounces. They handle all that bounce management automatically, which is a lifesaver for keeping your lists clean without extra cost per failed send.

Thinking of switching to SMTP.com. Any thoughts on their shared vs dedicated IPs?

P PriyaPatel 1 month ago ✓ Best Answer
Go dedicated if you can afford it. Way better control over your sender reputation.

A AmitSingh 1 month ago
Yeah, shared can be a nightmare sometimes.
5
S SnehaGupta 1 month ago
Is it a huge price difference?

A AnkitKumar 1 month ago
Shared IPs are fine for starting out or if your volume isn't crazy high. Don't overthink it.
0
D DeepaRao 1 month ago
I used shared for ages with no issues.
3
M ManojJain 1 month ago
Depends on your sending volume honestly. If it's low, shared is totally okay.

Thinking of switching from SendGrid. Is SMTP.com actually better or just another option?

B Brett 1 month ago
I moved over from SendGrid last year. Deliverability has been pretty solid for me, and their support feels more responsive. Worth a look.
3
C Cleo Foster 1 month ago
Honestly, it depends on your use case. For high volume, I found SMTP.com's dedicated IPs and deliverability tools to be a bit more robust than what I was getting with SendGrid. Their analytics are decent too.

Are there any promo codes floating around for SMTP.com? Or is it just the free trial for new users?

M Mia F. 1 month ago
Promo codes are pretty rare, usually for specific campaigns or if you're referred by a partner. Best bet is the free trial to test it out.
1
R Ryan Lindqvist 1 month ago
Yeah, I've never really seen public coupon codes for them. The free trial is what they push. You can save some if you go for annual billing though, that's like a built-in discount.

What's the typical setup time once I sign up? Need to get transactional emails going quickly for a new project.

S Shane 2 months ago
It's pretty fast. I think my account was approved within the same day, maybe a few hours after I signed up and verified everything. You can be sending almost right away.
6
N Nick 2 months ago
Should be quick. If you have your DNS records ready (SPF/DKIM), you can get going real fast. I had ours up and running in less than an afternoon, but we already knew what we were doing with that stuff.
